The inspiration for Sin Gusano came from being in rural southern Mexico, and meeting the people that live there working with agave and mezcal. Many in this region are financially poor and under threat of everything from state corruption, to natural disasters, to the encroachment of the narco industry, to capitalist forces their artisanal methods simply can't keep up with.
As a business attempting to monetise their product in a financially better-off part of the world, Sin Gusano has pledged to gift a minimum of 5% of any profits back to charitable causes, education programs, and sustainability projects in Mexico.
Some of the causes we've already backed are mentioned below. Please feel free to get in touch with any offers or ideas of further support.
Our good friends at S.A.C.R.E.D (Saving Agave for Culture, Recreation, Education, and Development) have been helping on the ground in Mexico a little longer than us. We held a joint event with them at our London venue in 2017, and it seemed a perfect place to gift the available profits from our first pop-up.
A registered charity in Chicago, S.A.C.R.E.D work with various NGO's in Mexico to promote agave sustainability and education in rural mezcal producing regions. Most recently, having funded the build of a library in a mezcal village, they've been stocking it with books donated in the US as payment for tastings of mezcal from the same village.
